Entities in Duchesne and Uintah Counties are collaborating on a water resource master plan in order to study water resources and needs into the future. The Uintah County Commission passed a motion during their Monday meeting that they support the study as the western portion of Uintah County needs to be included in the study area. While most of Duchesne County and much of Uintah County utilize water conservancy districts to manage water needs there is an area known as the Moon Lake Exclusion area that is not covered by any water plan and the study would identify the water needs and possibilities for that area. Uintah Water Conservancy District Director Gawain Snow explained during the Commission meeting that studies are crucial in the water industry because if you aren’t looking 50 years ahead of what your needs are, then you’re behind. He also explained that having studies done opens up funding opportunities. Commissioner Stringer said that by making a motion of support, Duchesne County will be able to use that as they make funding applications to the Community Impact Board.
