A drunk Duchesne County man allegedly shot his family dog and is now facing charges. According to the Affidavit of Probable Cause, officers were called and when speaking with the accused he claimed that his firearm was sitting on the couch when his dog jumped on the couch and the firearm shot the dog. Blood from the dog was on the couch and floor and a shell from the firearm was discovered next to the chair the man had been sitting in, indicating that the firearm was discharged from the chair based on where the shell would have discharged. When asked, he admitted that he had been drinking. Family members were interviewed and it was shared that the man was an alcohol interdicted person from a case in Uintah County but it was found he had been purchasing Vodka. The family also said that he had an obsession with getting out firearms while drinking. The dog had been rushed to the vet where a bullet was located in the dog’s spinal cord and had to be euthanized due to the injuries. It was determined that 35-year-old David George Harrison was a danger to himself and others and was booked into Duchesne County Jail. The Affidavit noted that the incident appeared to be recklessly done and not intentional. He has been charged with 3rd Degree Felony Discharge of a Firearm as well as Aggravated Cruelty to an Animal, Unlawful Purchase by an Interdicted Person, and Intoxication. The judge ordered Harrison to be released with conditions.
