Driver Hits Moose and Calf on Highway 40; Critical Injuries

No driver is immune to the dangers that wildlife can pose when crossing the road but travelers are especially at risk when someone is driving recklessly. According to Utah Highway Patrol, a red Pontiac Bonneville was traveling eastbound on Highway 40 near Daniel’s Canyon on June 2nd at around 11:20pm when it struck a moose and its calf that were standing in the roadway. “The driver, a 47-year-old female, was unresponsive on the scene when medical personnel and police arrived,” shares UHP. “The driver was flown by Life Flight to Utah Valley Regional Medical Center. During the investigation, witnesses stated that they observed the vehicle driving recklessly and at high rates of speed prior to the crash. Impairment is suspected and is being investigated as a contributing factor in the crash.” At the time of the UHP notification, the driver remained in critical condition.
