A fatal head on collision occurred Monday evening when a driver drifted into oncoming traffic at about 6:30pm at 895 West Highway 40 in Vernal, shutting down both directions of traffic as emergency personnel handled the scene. According to Vernal City Assistant Police Chief Keith Campbell, the female driver of the eastbound vehicle drifted into the oncoming lane, striking another vehicle. The driver in the eastbound vehicle was killed and the passenger was transported to Ashley Regional Medical Center ER and was then transported by air to the Wasatch Front. Neither the driver nor passenger were wearing seatbelts. The driver and passenger of the vehicle that was struck received minor injuries. Names are being withheld for now and the cause of the accident remains under investigation.
