Traveling at 100 mph in a 45 mph zone will attract attention and for one driver heading west through downtown Vernal that attention was from an officer. ABC4 reports that according to court documents, on the night of December 30th, an officer witnessed the BMW SUV traveling through traffic on Highway 40 and activated his lights. The driver of the SUV, however, did not slow down and even turned off his lights while driving making it harder for the officer to keep track of the vehicle. When a BMW was reported as driving recklessly in Gusher, officers responded and were able to locate the suspect vehicle. At first, 18-year-old David Manriquez denied driving at high speeds or fleeing from police but eventually admitted that he saw the flashing lights but simply decided not to stop. Manriquez was arrested and booked into Uintah County Jail.
