The victims in a double shooting on June 8th remain in serious condition, one of which is waiting for reconstructive surgery. Details from the shooting are available in court documents that indicate when deputies arrived on the scene the shooter, Jayson Dean, was laying face down in the roadway surrounded by people who came to assist after hearing shots fired. A gun was on the ground next to Dean and Dean made statements to the deputy that he had shot someone in the face. The deputy’s report states that Dean was intoxicated and smelled of alcohol. The two shooting victims were interviewed at the hospital and reported that Dean accused them both of stealing his drug pipe before the shooting took place. During an interview at the Uintah County Jail, Dean confirmed that he did in fact shoot one of the victims because he suspected him of stealing items from his residence. Dean is charged with 2 counts of 1st Degree Felony Attempted Aggravated Murder. As of last report, both victims remain in serious condition. The victim who was shot in the face was transported to a Salt Lake area hospital and will eventually receive reconstructive surgery.
