Due to the drought and major safety concerns, fire officials have encouraged the public to forego private fireworks this holiday season and instead enjoy a commercial show where the fire department remains on hand. Kevin Devoll of Ashley Acres Lights & Pyro has provided the stats on a massive 16 inch shell that will go off during the show. In case it means anything to you, the shell “is a double petal long duration gold brocade crown with sapphire blue pistil and rising gold tail.” A normal firework shell measures just a few inches and can be held in the palm of your hand. This massive shell is 16 inches by 8 inches and weighs 64 pounds with almost 5 pounds of powder to lift it. It will be buried 6 feet in the ground and will exit the tube at 221 miles per hour. It will travel 7 seconds to its maximum altitude of 1600 feet before breaking in a 720 foot diameter. Don’t miss the chance to see it!
