A generous donor at the NRA Banquet held last weekend is hoping to help make local schools even safer. According to Uintah County Sheriff Vance Norton, $2,100 dollars was donated to help train teachers and staff, on a voluntary basis only, tactics and firearm proficiency to help protect children at the schools. “We will be teaching tactics and then have them go through scenarios of an active shooter, utilizing our simunition guns,” shares Sheriff Norton. “We will do instruction on weapon retention, weapon concealment, weapon and holster selection, laws on the use of force, what their bodies do in critical situations and then talk about the mental issues that some might suffer after going through a critical incident.” Sheriff Norton also plans to continue offering the training after he completes his time as Sheriff through his company “Cover Your 6 Tactical” to make sure teachers and staff continue to have the resources they need. “The more we can give them the more prepared they will be both physically and mentally,” says Norton. “I feel this will be something that we need to provide to all those that want to be prepared for that day we hope never comes.”
