Employment data from the Division of Workforce Services shows that 2017 was another year of economic growth for the state of Utah. Utah’s nonfarm payroll employment for December grew by about 2.7 percent creating an addition of 38,800 jobs to the economy since December 2016. The state’s current employment level has reached 1,497,600. “With a full picture of 2017, Utah’s economic performance compared favorably to the rest of the United States,” shares Carrie Mayne, Chief Economist of the Department of Workforce Services. “Utah’s labor market experienced a solid year of steady, sustainable expansion with job growth averaging 3.1 percent and unemployment at 3.5 percent.” In the November unemployment report, Duchesne County was at 5.1 percent, Uintah County was at 5.6 percent, and Daggett County was at 5.2 percent. New county unemployment numbers will be released this week.
