Dinosaur National Monument Reports Mountain Lion Sightings

Dinosaur National Monument wants visitors to know that there has been an increase in recent sightings of mountain lions. “Dinosaur National Monument is home to a healthy mountain lion population, but they are not often seen, especially in the areas with most visitors,” shares the Monument’s announcement. “Recent sightings have been by boaters on the Green River at Pot Creek River campsite and in the Island Park area.” If you encounter a mountain lion do not run. Stand and face it. Appear large by waving arms or a jacket. Pick up small children without crouching or turning your back. Shout loudly but do not scream. Back away slowly to create distance and maintain eye contact. If a mountain lion acts aggressive, throw things and fight back. Visitors are asked to report any mountain lion sightings or signs of mountain lion activity. Observations can be reported to camp hosts or park staff at the visitor centers.
