An officer involved shooting is under investigation in Rock Springs, Wyoming. The Sweetwater County Sheriff’s Office reports that at approximately 4:10 a.m. on Monday, April 20th, Sweetwater County Sheriff’s deputies responded to the Sweetwater Heights apartment complex in Rock Springs to assist the Rock Springs Police Department with a reported disturbance involving an armed individual. “Initial information provided to dispatch indicated the individual had sustained a self-inflicted gunshot wound prior to law enforcement’s arrival,” shares the Sheriff’s Office. “When officers and deputies arrived, they encountered an armed individual on the exterior balcony of an upstairs apartment who appeared to have a gunshot wound consistent with the initial report to dispatch. During the encounter, a Sweetwater County Sheriff’s deputy discharged a duty weapon. Preliminary findings indicate the individual was struck. Emergency medical personnel rendered aid at the scene and transported the individual to a hospital in critical condition.” The involved deputy has been placed on administrative leave. No law enforcement officers or other members of the public were injured during the incident.
