Altamont’s own professional cowboy has put in the work and is ready to defend his gold buckle at the upcoming 2025 National Finals Rodeo. This will be the 3rd year making it to the NFR for the now 23-year-old Dean Thompson. Thompson first earned his spot among the top bareback riders in 2023 and finished in third place for Rookie of the Year. In 2024, Thompson won the aggregate championship in bareback riding by having the best 10-ride cumulative score. He finished that season with $412,121 and a new opportunity as a NFR Champion. A highlight on Thompson’s success is shared on twistedrodeo.com. In that highlight, Thompson shares his thoughts about the last few years. “You become a face for the game, which is crazy to look at like that, but it’s also extremely motivating,” shares Thompson. “I think to myself, ‘If I had kids, what kind of person would I want them looking up to as a world champion?’ It blows me away, and I hope I live up to that, not only for myself, but for everyone around me: My community, my family, my friends, everyone. I just want to be the best I can be.” The 2025 National Finals Rodeo kicks off on December 4th in Las Vegas.
