On June 13th, Roosevelt’s Dalton Van was killed in a vehicle rollover at the young age of 19. Despite his age, Dalton had accomplished a great deal, including graduating from UBTech’s welding program, winning the Miller Electric’s Weld-Mask Scholarship Sweepstake, earning two gold medals at the Utah SkillsUSA competition, earning a silver medal at the National SkillsUSA contest, and being ranked second in the nation for his skills. Later he competed in the American Welding Society Welding World Trails s. He also excelled in his other interests earning the title of 2019 National High School Final Rodeo Trap Competition champion. His impact has inspired Miller Electric and the American Welding Society to award a $1,000 scholarship in Dalton’s name. For the next five years, AWS will select the student to receive the scholarship from welding students at UBTech that qualify by being enrolled full-time, or accepted to be enrolled, and working toward their 900-hour Welding Advanced Technician Certificate.
