Daggett County is highlighted in a report focused on shortages in Utah’s maternal health care. The new report, produced by the Utah Department of Health and the Kem C. Gardner Policy Institute, is titled ‘Maternal Health in Utah: Risk Factors, Workforce Gaps, and Access to Care’. The report highlights distance to care, access to maternal mental health treatment, and preventative health care for Utah women and Daggett County is one of 5 counties in the state with the most restricted access to care with an over 60 minute drive to receive care. “Utah’s maternal health workforce is under-resourced. Some communities in the state are experiencing a shortfall of health care professionals providing maternal health care,” says Melanie Beagley, lead author of the report. “Unfortunately, this gap is expected to grow over the coming decades.” To read the new maternal health report and learn about resources, visit ruralhealth.utah.gov
