Traffic had to be diverted on Highway 40 in Duchesne City and beyond while crews addressed a serious crude oil leak that stretched for miles last week. According to Utah Highway Patrol, a crude tanker had some sort of malfunction and spilled a large amount of crude oil from Duchesne City to mile marker 79 on westbound Highway 40. The spill covered approximately 7 miles. Utah Highway Patrol had troopers on scene and UDOT responded with barricades to divert traffic. The tanker’s company contacted their hazmat people who responded and performed environmental cleanup. Traffic was diverted north on SR-87 to SR-35 and back to Highway 40 on SR-208. Lanes also remained blocked off during the continued cleanup.
