With over 50 vendors and known as a cozy hang out spot, the Market On Main has a tribe behind it and that was evident after an unfortunate incident this week. Market On Main owner Trisha Sorenson started getting calls early Tuesday morning that her store’s large front window was shattered. The Vernal Police Department issued a press release on the incident confirming that it was a case of criminal mischief. “It was initially believed that the window was shattered as the result of an intentional act, or as the result of a rock coming off of the tire on a passing vehicle,” shares Vernal Police. “Investigation and information gathered from the complainant indicate that the window was in fact shattered by a bb/airsoft projectile fired from a passing vehicle. Officers are gathering video from the area in an attempt to identify the vehicle and suspects involved.” While Market On Main did have to stay closed on Tuesday, the window was boarded up and the mess cleaned up in time for business to open as usual on Wednesday. Sorenson says the incident has actually left her feeling very grateful. “Within just 30 minutes of me getting to the store and sharing with my vendors what had happened I had a store full of people here helping me,” she shares. “It makes me happy because our market is about community and it’s about creating a space that is safe and welcoming and allows people to share what they are making and have. Yesterday I saw that community come together to help me and I’m just super grateful to all who helped and have reached out.” Sorenson says the security footage from within the store shows what time the incident happened and that thankfully no one came into the store while it was open. The replacement window will take around 90 days to get in, so in the meantime, the Market On Main artists are planning to come together and turn the boarded up window into art. Anyone with information on this crime and/or potential suspects are asked to call Central Dispatch at 435-789-4222.
