Crews Battling Divide Fire in Moffat County

Wind fueled a fire that began northwest of Craig on Friday. According to the Moffat County Sheriff’s Office, the Divide Fire was reported on June 29th at about 1:50pm near the town of Great Divide. The Sheriff’s Office, BLM, Craig Fire and Rescue, Moffat County Road and Bridge, Memorial Regional Health, and Yampa Valley Electric all responded to the scene. Wind quickly spread the fire to approximately 5,136 acres by
Saturday afternoon
with 10 percent containment at that time. “The fire destroyed one residence in the town of Great Divide,” shares the Sheriff’s Office. “No additional residences are currently threatened.” Road closures were in place for the intersection of Moffat County Roads 7 and 17 and Moffat County Roads 7 and 5. It was expected
on Sunday evening
for the fire to be at 100% containment by the end of the day. The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
