Contour Airlines has shared that they will continue with business as usual at the Vernal Regional Airport despite the government shutdown. Reports that rural air service could be impacted if the shutdown extends past Sunday is connected to the potential halt in Essential Air Service funding but, if that does happen, it will not affect Vernal’s air service. Vernal Regional Airport Director Ken Campbell says he spoke with the CEO of Contour Airlines on Tuesday who promised that service will continue and the EAS system will reimburse Contour appropriately when the government shutdown is resolved. “Ultimately what we need to know here in the Uintah Basin is Contour Airlines has stated that they’re going to take care of this community in spite of what is going on with the federal government,” shares Campbell. Contour will continue serving flights to and from Denver, Phoenix, and Vernal as well as they can until the shutdown is resolved.
