The Uintah County Commission approved a cooperative agreement with the Utah Division of Forestry, Fire and State Lands for what amounts to wildfire insurance. A representative from the Uintah Fire Special Service District presented and explained that the risk assessment amount equals $12,747 dollars. The average fire suppression cost over the last 10 years totals $64,956 dollars for a total of $77,703 dollars. The funds are covered by the Fire District but the agreement with the state must be signed by the County. The Commissioners and County Attorney Jonathan Stearmer emphasized that the state was unwilling to amend the contract but that it is important to note that this contract does nothing to jeopardize the arms length relationship of Uintah County with the Fire District. With the agreement approved, the state will cover the remaining amount in the case of wildfire.
