Community members gathered at the Uintah County Library board meeting on Friday for the chance to make public comments regarding the Drag Story Hour private event scheduled in June at the library. Strong opinions were shared both in support and opposition of the event and the entire meeting can be viewed on the Uintah County Youtube Channel. The Drag Story Hour event organizer Latrisha Fall was among those that commented and one thing she noted was that children in attendance must be accompanied by a parent or legal guardian and any adult attending without children must stay in the back of the room where there will not be children. The topic of defining Community Standards was a focus of multiple commenters as was the LGBTQ community’s desire to use public spaces and feel welcome. Library Director Sam Passey made the final comment before the meeting closed, thanking everyone for sharing input and remaining civil with one another. In response to concerns the library has received of the potential for unlawful conduct, Passey stated that the library’s administration does not tolerate illicit activity and will actively report such behavior to law enforcement. He also said it is a right for the public to reserve the meeting rooms in accordance with the policies and standards of conduct found on www.uintahlibrary.org. Separate news stories will be shared on some of the topics from the public comment period.
