Wolves are in the news again, including a release of information on what is done when a wolf wanders into the state of Utah. Colorado Parks and Wildlife explained in a press release that CPW has an agreement in place with Utah, New Mexico, and Arizona to ensure wolves that cross into those states can be safely recaptured and returned to Colorado in order to protect the genetic integrity of the federally listed Mexican gray wolf. “Several states have agreed that if a wolf from Colorado enters their jurisdiction, they will capture and return the animal to CPW,” shares Data Coordinator Brenna Cassidy. “That helps protect both Colorado’s reintroduction effort and ongoing recovery efforts for Mexican wolves in the Southwest.” CPW also announced that a female gray wolf had been confirmed dead in Rocky Mountain National Park and Fish and Wildlife is investigating.
