A wolf kill of livestock in north western Colorado has been confirmed. According to the Colorado Cattlemen’s Association, the confirmed kill of a 500 pound purebred heifer was discovered near the town of Walden. This was the first confirmed wolf kill of livestock in over 70 years in the state of Colorado. Colorado Parks and Wildlife confirmed the existence of wolves in northern Colorado in early 2021. “On behalf of the livestock producer, who is a member of the Colorado Cattlemen’s Association (CCA), as well as Colorado Parks and Wildlife, we ask that the public refrain from disturbing the area and individuals associated with this wolf attack,” shared Colorado Cattlemen’s Association President Steve Wooten. The announcement concluded by strongly encouraging the members of the Wolf Restoration and Management Plan working groups and the Colorado Parks and Wildlife Commission to consider how livestock will be impacted by wolf introduction.
