Those signed up for the CodeRED system in the Uintah Basin can expect a mobile alert on Thursday. According to Uintah County Emergency Manager Tal Ehlers, a CodeRED mobile alert will be issued in conjunction with the Great Utah Shakeout. The CodeRED system sends out a telephone call in case of an emergency situation that requires immediate action. An alert will be sent for the Great Utah Shakeout in order for emergency management to exercise the system, explains Ehlers. “It also helps us go through and clear out phone numbers of people who don’t live here anymore or people who have changed their number. It also spreads awareness to the fact that the program exists.” Ehlers says that often individuals will learn about CodeRED and sign up when people around them have an alert and they decide they want to be on the list as well.
