Vernal City has announced that they are in the process of applying for funding needed for contamination cleanup downtown. Soil contamination and the City being uniquely positioned to qualify for special grants for the cleanup were chief among the reasons for Vernal City pursuing acquisition of the Lamplighter property. The Vernal City Quarterly Newsletter shares that the application is now in process for funding through the EPA Brownfields Cleanup Grant program in order to address the environmental contamination at the site of the former Basin Laundry and into the Lamplighter property. “The application focuses on the cleanup of volatile organic compounds (VOCs), petroleum, and asbestos. A public hearing on this grant application will be held during the regular City Council meeting on Wednesday, January 7, 2026, at 6:00 p.m.”
