The petition in Uintah County proposing that a change in county government be placed on the November ballot has been certified. A group of locals gathered signatures and Uintah County announced on Wednesday that the petition being certified begins the next phase of the process in which the Uintah County Commission will hold four public hearings within 45 days. Anna Billings with Citizens for Change shared the following with Evans Family Media after the announcement that the petition has been certified: “This plan calls for a change in our county government from the current 3-person full-time ‘County Commission’ form to the state-approved ‘Council-Manager’ form. This form gives legislative powers to 5 part-time council members from 5 districts within the county and appoints a county manager to run the day-to-day functions. We strongly believe this form will allow for better representation for all county residents and seeks to find community members who wish to serve their community rather than benefit from it. During the petition effort, the response was overwhelmingly positive with almost 3,500 signatures gathered when only 2,101 were required, and we hope that that will translate through at the ballot box.” Uintah County shared on Wednesday that the hearings are designed to give the community an opportunity to understand the proposal before any future vote and once the hearing schedule is finalized, details will be published on the County website and social media. All are encouraged to participate, ask questions, and become informed throughout the process.
