State of the Art Welding Technology Building Underway at UBTech
UBTech enjoyed a successful groundbreaking ceremony on Thursday for their latest expansion of infrastructure. Construction of a new state of the art welding technology building is now underway on the Roosevelt campus. The $4.5 million dollar structure, funded by Utah State Legislature, will be equipped by two highly respected welding companies, Miller Electric and Norco Incorporated, ensuring welding students have access to the most updated equipment available with equipment upgrades every other year. UBTech’s welding program has earned national and even worldwide recognition by producing welders who have consistently claimed both state and national titles. This includes an international ranking of 5th place for a UBTech welding student at the 2015 world welding trials in Abu Dhabi. “They might not know where we are located,” shares UBTech President Aaron Weight, “but they know who we are and what kind of welders we produce.” The new welding technology building is anticipated to open in 2019.

Fatal Head On Collision on Highway 40 in Vernal
A fatal head on collision occurred Monday evening when a driver drifted into oncoming traffic at about 6:30pm at 895 West Highway 40 in Vernal, shutting down both directions of traffic as emergency personnel handled the scene. According to Vernal City Assistant Police Chief Keith Campbell, the female driver of the eastbound vehicle drifted into the oncoming lane, striking another vehicle.
Vacancy on Roosevelt City Council with Foster Announcing Departure
Roosevelt City has announced an opening on the Roosevelt City Council with the departure of Albert Foster as he has accepted a career opportunity on the Wasatch Front. Foster was halfway through his second term on city council and just days after his run for Roosevelt City Mayor when he was offered a position as HR Director of Wasatch Mental Health in Provo.
Union High Launches Swim Team
Union High School’s new swim team is proving that cats really do like water. The team has begun competitions with eighteen swimmers and a total of twelve swim meets. The team welcomes new swimmers, experienced or not. Justin Schmitt and Tom Felkins make up the coaching staff. “The swimmers are working hard and getting ready for their first meet,” shares Coach Felkins and Coach Schmitt says he doesn’t “think there is a better sport out there.”

Many in the community are wondering ‘What’s Next for Uintah County?’ following an audit report released by the Office of the State Auditor regarding the Uintah Transportation Special Service District. Without addressing every finding in the report, the Uintah County Attorney’s Office did provide a response on Monday afternoon.
25K Jobs Initiative Ends State Tour in Uintah and Daggett County
The state tour for Governor Gary Herbert’s 25K Jobs Initiative wrapped up in Uintah and Daggett County on Wednesday. Local business leaders, community members, government officials and resource partners gathered at the Uintah Conference Center to explore methods of bringing jobs to the rural communities of eastern Utah. Lt. Governor Spencer Cox addressed the group prior to a roundtable discussion.

25K Jobs Initiative Coming to Uintah Basin
The Uintah Basin is the next stop for Governor Gary Herbert’s 25K Jobs Initiative. The launch tour is scheduled to make a stop in Uintah County and Daggett County next Wednesday. The tour is aimed at bringing business leaders, community members, government officials and resource partners together in an effort to strengthen economies, create jobs and support local businesses in rural areas of Utah. Lt. Governor Spencer Cox and World Trade Center Utah CEO Derek Miller will be in attendance as they seek to accomplish Governor Herbert’s goal of creating 25,000 jobs in rural communities in the next four years. The first stop on Wednesday, November 8th, is at the Uintah Conference Center in Vernal from noon to 2pm. The tour then heads north to hit Daggett County for a tour stop at Manila Elementary from 4pm to 6pm.
