KNEU 1250Roosevelt City has partnered with the National Park Service’s Rivers, Trails, and Conservation Assistance (RTCA) Program and is in the earliest stages of designing a trail close to downtown Roosevelt. The area for the proposed trail is a section of Cottonwood Creek between Lagoon Street and 800 South.
Invite the Christmas spirit into your life and into the lives of local elderly by planning to go to the Uintah County Heritage Museum in the coming days. The museum has a goal to make 180 holiday cards from now to December 20th. These cards will be delivered by The Golden Age Center as they go around the community giving meals to homebound elderly clients.
As a part of Red Ribbon Week, the National Family Partnership has a photo contest to help spread the Red Ribbon Week message in neighborhoods, communities and on social media. The contest has winners for five regions, individual entries and special awards by the judges. For the third year in a row, Naples Elementary has received the most votes and won for Region 5.
A well-known and respected Uintah County man has received state honors. Uintah High School’s Coach Gregg Stensgard has been selected as the 2018 4A Coach of the Year for the state of Utah.
Get ready, Uintah Basin the holidays are about to hit full swing. Before we get there Ashley National Forest wants to remind people about Christmas Tree Permits. If you are looking to cut down a fresh and local Christmas tree be sure to visit the ranger district offices or local vendors on Thursday, November 15th. Permits are $15 with a limit to one tree per household.
Rumors can spread like wildfire and thankfully a recent rumor about Uintah High School is false. The Uintah County Sheriff’s Office made an announcement on Thursday stating clearly that there have been NO threats of school shooting or violence made against Uintah High School, the campus around the high school, or any students.
An online petition in support of rail in the Uintah Basin has gathered steam the last few weeks and supporters are asking for more signers today before the petition is presented to the Community Impact Board. Within the petition is states, “We are showing our support for responsible spending of funds to extend a railroad to connect our neighboring states railway infrastructure.” It also states the belief that a railway will “bring stability to the community by sustaining employment through oilfield boom and bust” as well as “have a stabilizing effect on small business and growth to these businesses”, among other statements of support.
The Uintah Youth Conservation Corps was recently recognized by the Intermountain Region USDA Forest Service at the 2018 Regional Forester Award Ceremony to highlight the success of the program. “The Uintah Youth Conservation Corps program is designed to provide environmental education through hands-on learning experiences on the Ashley National Forest while working on projects that benefit the Forest and its ecosystems,” shares Ashley National Forest Affairs Officer Louis Haynes.
The November election is approaching. Uintah County Clerk-Auditor Mike Wilkins confirms that in Uintah County, ballots will be mailed by October 22nd. Voter registration deadlines are October 9th if registering by mail and October 30th if registering online at vote.utah.gov or in person.
National Extra Mile Day is coming up and Roosevelt City has big plans to celebrate. The City announced this week that they are accepting nominations of citizens who have gone the extra mile in serving the Roosevelt City community. From the pool of nominations, Roosevelt City Council will present three Extra Mile Day awards to deserving individuals for “going the extra mile to make Roosevelt a great place to live, work, and play.”
Package grinches don’t only come around at Christmas time. Theft of packages is on the rise in the area and all are encouraged to beware. “Please watch your home delivery packages,” shares Roosevelt City Police Department. “Thefts from porches are happening in our area.” Thieves are looking for packages just sitting on the front porch or out in the open. They will look for an opportunity to take them and promptly leave the area. There are a few ways to prevent being a victim. Roosevelt Police suggests having packages delivered to a work address or to another attended address. Having a parcel lock box is another possible solution. Regardless, it is important to avoid having packages sitting out in the open for any length of time.
The weekend began to see successful containment operations of the Dollar Ridge Fire as Mother Nature gave a hand to the hard working firefighters. Utah Fire Info reports that as of Sunday, July 8th, the fire had reached 49,789 acres, was 30 percent contained, and had 784 fire personnel on the job.
