KNEU 1250The Hancock Cove Sewer Project continues to progress thanks to the mild weather. Crews continue to install sewer pipe both inside and outside the subdivision. Condie Construction reports that over 2000 feet of sewer main line have been installed per week over the last two weeks. A gravel drain trench will be complete to allow groundwater a path to the natural drainage at the gulch.
Vernal City Council met in a special work session on Thursday to explore the city priorities and initiatives for 2018. The work session had a list 37 items long and the group spent anywhere from 30 seconds to 10 minutes on each item determining if it was a priority this year, explains Vernal City Manager Quinn Bennion

Winter is a popular time to gather shed antlers in the Uintah Basin but the Division of Wildlife Resources has some timely reminders before heading out. First things first, if you plan to gather shed antlers anytime between February 1st and April 15th, a free course must be complete and once complete, a certificate of completion must be printed off and kept on your person while out gathering antlers. If you have young children and you’ve completed the course, then the certificate will cover the kids too.
The Uintah High School Athletic Director has been recognized by the National Interscholastic Athletic Administrators Association. Also the Vice Principal at UHS, Bill Sivert is now a Certified Athletic Administrator.
It’s a comic book with a cause. As the flagship comic book for Glider Comix, Sugar Glider is the brainchild of a Vernal 12-year-old and her comic book collecting dad. Shelbi Webb, a 6th grader at Vernal Middle School, and her dad Jason were talking one day in March of 2017 how it would be fun to create their own comic book character.
With the election process starting up, Sheriff Vance Norton has announced that he will not be seeking re-election. “It’s hard to believe we are entering the last year of my 4 year term as Sheriff,” shares Norton.
Scams of all kinds are rampant around the country and the Uintah Basin is no exception. Most recently, scammers posing as Dish Network representatives are calling and asking for personal information. Uintah County’s Joann Winn was among those hit with a call informing her she needed to perform an update on her Dish Network receiver. After giving the caller some information, she felt suspicious and made a phone call to the Dish Network Customer Service line.
The Division of Wildlife Resources wants to make sure local non-profit and government agencies get a fair shot at grant money that will be available through the Utah Office of Outdoor Recreation. There will be $2 to 5 million dollars administered to Utah applicants in matching grant funding amounts ranging from $5,000 to $150,000 dollars to create better outdoor recreation opportunities in local communities.

One Vernal woman has defeat the odds in the publishing world with the release of her 5th novel coming up on February 6th, a feat that even most published authors never reach. The Dragon’s Curse is the second book in Bethany Wiggins’ Transference trilogy with publisher powerhouse Random House Books. Book one in the series, The Dragon’s Price, was released in February 2017 and the release of book three is expected in February 2019.
While there are still important details to be worked out, Daggett County and Dutch John have been able to make headway with their negotiations regarding the incorporation of Dutch John. On January 19th, a public meeting was held at the County Courthouse in Manila in which the Dutch John Town Council and Daggett County Commission met and took action on certain aspects of the transfer agreement.
