Governor Herbert Speaks to Effects of HB441 on Uintah Basin Economy

Governor Gary Herbert made comments on the potential effects of proposed tax reform on the Uintah Basin economy during a meeting Wednesday with the Utah Broadcast Association. While Governor Herbert spoke of the need for tax reform during his State of the State address in January, HB441 has taken many Utahns by surprise, particularly those in the service industries that will be faced with the new sales tax on services if the bill passes.

Cache Valley Turkeys Relocated to Book Cliffs

Most people think that having too much turkey is exclusively a Thanksgiving problem. Well, residents of the town of Mendon, found in Utah’s Cache Valley, would have a different story. Every winter the town is overrun with turkeys that come looking for food, according to a KSL report. Although there is no official number, it is estimated that there is around 500 turkeys in Mendon alone though the whole valley is also dealing with an overabundance.

UHP Confirms 2 Dead in Highway 40 Crash Near Strawberry Reservoir

Winter conditions and insufficient tread on tires were contributors in a tragic and fatal accident on Highway 40 near Strawberry Reservoir on Wednesday. According to Utah Highway Patrol, the accident took place at 3:15pm at Mile Post 52 about 1 mile east of the Soldier Creek Turn. “SR-40 in the area of the crash was snowy and icy,” shares Highway Patrol.

‘Go Out and Play’ Exhibit at the Uintah County Heritage Museum

Jean Piaget is quoted as saying “if you want to be creative, stay in part a child, with the creativity and invention that characterizes children before they are deformed by adult society.” The new exhibit at the Uintah County Heritage Museum is celebrating just that. Entitled ‘Go Out and Play’, the exhibit features artists from Utah and Arizona in a variety of mediums. Each piece reflects how traditional play has been trivialized and is in jeopardy by modern screen time.

Semi Overturns on Highway 40 in Accident with Passenger Car

Thankfully injuries were minor in an accident that took place between Naples and Jensen involving a semi and passenger car on Sunday evening. According to Utah Highway Patrol, the crash took place at about 5:05pm on Highway 40 at MM 155. A passenger car was making a turn off of Highway 40 when a westbound semi truck and trailer struck the corner of the car.
