Seven County Infrastructure Coalition Partners With Drexel Hamilton on Rail Project

Though there is still a ways to go, supporters of rail in the Uintah Basin are feeling encouraged. In a press release issued Friday, the Seven County Infrastructure Coalition announced that they have selected private partner, Drexel Hamilton Infrastructure Partners, to finance and build the Uinta Basin Railway. The rail project aims to connect the Uinta Basin with the national rail network as a cost-effective solution for adding transportation infrastructure in the Basin. “Drexel Hamilton brings a wealth of industry experience and valuable resources and we are excited to partner with them to advance the Uinta Basin Railway,” shares Mike McKee, executive director of the Seven County Infrastructure Coalition.

Dinah SOAR Days Taken to New Heights

The excitement for Dinah SOAR Days has been building for two years. Last year hit a bit of a bump as the weather made it so that none of the balloons were launched. Though the weather affected one launch day this year, the other two launches were a resounding success. It is estimated by Uintah County Travel and Tourism that each launch had close to a thousand people in attendance with Friday’s Night Glow having somewhere close to 3,000 people.

Rapha House Fundraiser A Major Success

The annual fundraiser for Rapha House held at the Western Park was a major success on Friday night. “We raised around $20,000!” shares one of the event coordinators, Katy Cundall. “We are very exhausted but even more thankful! We had more people there than any other year and a lot of new people who haven’t been before.

No Injuries in School Bus Crash in Uintah County

There were no injuries reported in a crash involving a Uintah School District bus on Wednesday morning in Vernal. According to the Uintah School District, the crash occurred on Wednesday, May 8th, at about 7:50am when bus number 58 stopped to pick up students near 250 South Vernal Avenue and was struck from behind by the driver of a pickup truck. “The bus driver had activated the bus’ yellow flashers, set the emergency brake and was preparing to open the door for students to board when the crash happened,” shares the District.

TriCounty Health Director Jordan Mathis Presents on Utah Medical Cannabis

Director of TriCounty Health Jordan Mathis presented and answered questions at the Vernal Chamber luncheon on Tuesday concerning the Utah Medical Cannabis Act that was passed in December 2018. The passing of HB 3001 gives the state until March 1st, 2020 to have most elements of the program operational, including a system in place for the issuance of medical cannabis patient cards and the licensing of medical cannabis pharmacies.

Accident Temporarily Closes Access to Josie’s Cabin on Wednesday

Access to Josie’s Cabin was temporarily closed on Wednesday morning after a single vehicle accident. Dinosaur National Monument informed the public of the closure and announced that the accident had been cleared and Cub Creek Road was reopened at 12:10pm. Open House for Ouray National Wildlife Refuge/Ouray National Fish Hatchery

It was in 1993 when International Migratory Bird Day (IMBD) was created by the Smithsonian Migratory Bird Center and the Cornell Laboratory of Ornithology. Now as part of the 25th anniversary of this event, the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service is having an Open House. The event will be a free family fun affair for all ages. Visitors will be able to enjoy the scenic views of Ouray National Wildlife Refuge/Ouray National Fish Hatchery while learning about wildlife, conservation and other subjects.
