Sunday, June 7th, marked 10 years since a Bureau of Indian Affairs police officer’s life was lost in a car accident and local agencies and individuals took the opportunity to remember him on social media. Officer Joshua Yazzie was just 33 years old when the accident occured as he was responding to a call.
Vernal Police identified the suspect in the June 3rd shooting in a press release issued Monday morning.
Crews continued work on the Gusher Highway 40 UDOT project this week. According to the most recent UDOT update, paving is getting underway and will run at least through Saturday. Paving will all take place during daytime hours.

Utah’s Department of Workforce Services has provided an update on the state’s unemployment claims. According to the report, the number of new claims filed for unemployment benefits in Utah was 4,996 for the week of May 24th through the 30th.
Wanting to welcome the public for some fun at the racetrack, the Diamond Mountain Speedway organizers got creative. “We sped off with our first two nights of racing in May,” shares one of the event organizers, Jim Wallace.
The Utah Wildlife Board met Thursday and approved several changes, including the incorporation of a new law passed this year in Utah aimed at preventing invasive quagga mussels from spreading throughout Utah.
TriCounty Health Officer Jordan Mathis provided a COVID-19 update on Wednesday during the Give’m Health segment on Eagle Country 105.5 FM KLCY. Mathis explained that the Commission that advises the Governor met on Tuesday and voted unanimously to recommend that the state be moved from the Yellow “low-risk” phase to the Green “new normal-risk” phase.
The Dinosaur Roundup Rodeo announced Wednesday that they will move forward as scheduled on July 9th through the 11th. “The rodeo will be held, with fans at full capacity whether Vernal is in the ‘yellow’ or ‘green’ risk phase,” shares the announcement.
TriCounty Health Department is working with local school districts to make getting back to school vaccines as easy as possible. Vaccines can be done when stopping to pick up school lunch at select schools and times.
