KNEU 1250A decision is anticipated today on the future of the Fire District and restructuring of other Special Service Districts in Uintah County. During a City/County meeting on August 24th, Uintah County Commissioners proposed that due to a severe decline in mineral lease funds several changes be made to the Special Service Districts.
A new Manager has been selected for the Vernal Regional Airport. The position opened up last May when Manager Doug Brown announced his resignation after accepting a new career opportunity in Wisconsin. In June, it was announced that Vernal City would be taking over management of the airport from the Uintah Transportation Special Service District.
The Governor’s Office of Energy Development has found another way to support businesses affected by the COVID-19 pandemic this year, this time utilizing $5 million dollars in federal CARES Act funds to help companies in the oil, gas and mining industries.
The Uintah Basin, as with many places in the West, has been dealing with some very real problems with pollutants in the air because of wildfires. In a bit of refreshing news the TriCounty Health Department announced through a press release that they are a recipient of the UCAIR grant.

The Duchesne County Sheriff’s Office asked for the public to keep an eye out for a 2013 Silver Ford Explorer that was stolen out of Roosevelt on Thursday.

Duchesne County School District has reported its third case of COVID-19. On Thursday, September10th, Duchesne County School District was notified by TriCounty Health Department that an individual at Centennial Elementary School tested positive.
The Utah Department of Transportation has been working with Vernal City to complete the Vernal Main Street Drainage Improvement Project. The first phase is complete, which saw the installation of a storm drain bypass at 600 west and Main. Phase II will start in which a new storm drain will be installed under Main Street between 500 West and 500 East.
The Uintah School District announced Thursday that beginning Monday, September 14th, breakfast and lunch for all kids, ages 18 and under, will be provided for free. “This free meal program is being offered through a federal waiver that is part of the national response to the COVID-19 pandemic,” shares Uintah School District.
TriCounty Health Department announced on Wednesday the first case of COVID-19 confirmed in Daggett County. According to the TriCounty Health announcement, the patient is a female between the ages of 25 and 44 and her case is believed to be a result of community-acquired transmission.
A collaboration between the Daggett School District, Utah Department of Transportation, Utah Education & Telehealth Network, and Strata Networks has resulted in the completion of an extensive 68-mile fiber-optic project that connects Daggett County schools, health clinics, and communities to their network.
