It was a great weekend of competition for our high school swim teams. The Union High School swim team turned out great times at their Region meet with the boys taking first overall and the girls coming in second place by a very narrow margin. Duchesne County School District shared their congratulations for the team on social media.
The driver killed over the weekend in a Highway 40 crash has been identified. According to Utah Highway Patrol, the deceased driver has been identified as 54-year-old Robert Hoff of Fort Duchesne. The accident happened on Saturday, January 30th, at approximately 6:19 pm.
Based on the lines and smiles of those hitting the slopes, you could assume the Buckskin Hills Ski and Snow Tubing Hill is a welcome addition to the community and it certainly is for many. There are others, however, that have taken a different stance on the facility and its use of Cares Act funds, some frustrated that their business did not receive funds.
A bill advancing in the Utah Legislature has Uintah Basin support behind it. HB 166 “addresses the treatment and theft of livestock, including livestock guardian dogs and livestock infrastructure.” This means that if the bill is passed, a person who shoots or steals a farmers’ livestock could lose their hunting privileges among other penalties.

Many travelers coming to and from the Uintah Basin on Saturday were delayed due ot a tragic crash. According to Utah Highway Patrol, on Saturday, January 30th, at approximately 6:19 p.m., Troopers responded to reports of a head-on collision on Highway 40 at mile post 34.

Well he did what he does best on Friday, January 29th, and kept that number 1 spot by winning the PRCA Xtreme Bulls competition in Rapid City, South Dakota.

Ice and snow means the roads will be slick, which means Troopers and other emergency responders will likely be handling crashes. In addition to other winter driving tips, the Utah Highway Patrol wants to remind drivers of a life-saving one: SLOW DOWN, MOVE OVER for vehicles on the shoulder.
A spotlight has been shone on cases of officers facing discipline for accessing the state's police database without authorization, including an incident in Duchesne County. A KSL report explains that five officers have already faced discipline this year which is more cases than all of 2020.
