High school graduation is approaching and plans are moving forward to once again display flags down Vernal’s Main Street of all Uintah County graduating seniors. The flags will have the graduate’s picture and school on it and they will be on display for the last two weeks in May.
A local group of high achieving teens have set a great example of service in the community. The Uintah High School National Honor Society chapter recently participated in two service projects. “Volunteers collected donated food Saturday from throughout the community as part of the statewide Feed Utah food drive.
Biologists from the Utah Division of Wildlife Resources are asking for the public’s feedback after recommending a decrease in the number of general-season permits for the 2021 deer hunt. The current objective of the DWR is to have just over 400,000 deer across Utah but currently there is just an estimated 314,850 deer in the state.
Gear up for more orange construction cones on Uintah County roadways. According to a UDOT announcement, SR 121 will be resurfaced through Maeser and Vernal Main Street. Work could begin as early as April 5th and will continue through mid-September. The six mile distance stretches from Milepost 34 and down Vernal Main Street.
Pieces of history can be found anywhere. That is certainly the case for Danny Tuttle, a six year old from Green River, Wyoming. According to a press release from Sweetwater Now, the regular museum visitor brought a badly rusted revolver that was found hidden beneath a rock in the desert by his great-grandfather, Jesse Lloyd Tuttle, in the 1940s.
It is very fitting that the Boy Scouts of America’s motto is Be Prepared as David Semadeni has furthered the motto through his Eagle project. Through discussions with his neighbor, a teacher at Maeser Elementary, he learned that the school’s emergency buckets were needing a replenishment of supplies.

Vernal Theatre: Live’s Season 5 closer is fan favorite ‘The Sound of Music’ and excitement for the production is seemingly in the air. There is now less than a month before opening and show director Mike Sorenson says rehearsals have been going great. “Our cast is a really good mix of old faces and new faces,” explains Sorenson.
COVID-19 vaccinations are now open to the general population and they are available through TriCounty Health Department and other local partners. Still there are special vaccination clinics happening in the area including a special Veterans Vaccine Clinic coming up this weekend in Roosevelt.
The reintroduction of wolves in Colorado continues to be a hot topic since the November election when Proposition 114 narrowly passed in Colorado, mandating the reintroduction. Just 13 counties out of Colorado’s 64 counties voted YES for the Proposition and among those opposed many are demonstrating continued opposition, especially in Western Colorado.
The Utah Petroleum Association is fully committed to battling heavy regulations on the oil and gas industries coming from the Biden Administration and they are asking for the public to join them in the battle. “We need you as an advocate,” shares Rikki Hrenko-Browning, President of the Utah Petroleum Association.
