KNEU 1250A global nonprofit organization whose only goal is to help visually impaired children is making a stop in Vernal. The EyeCare4Kids organization is celebrating its 20th year of service and has helped nearly 400,000 children around the world with professional eye exams and new prescription glasses at little to no cost.
The 2021 Ladies Night Out Vernal was a huge success. Like so many things, 2020 disrupted the annual event that helps girls rescued from sex trafficking that are in safe houses through the Rapha House organization in Cambodia, Thailand, and Haiti.
The 2021 theme for the Duchesne County Fair is “Hometown Heroes” and Steve Dunsmore has been announced as the Hometown Hero 2021. “Born and raised in the Uintah Basin, Steve is a stellar example of tireless service to our community.
The students of Manila Elementary School continue to set an excellent example of caring for the community. In the May edition of the Flaming Gorge Gazette it shares that students spent the better part of Earth Day on April 22nd cleaning up the grounds of the Manila School campus.
Parents often feel concerned when there is police activity at or near a school and in a case there were concerns on Thursday, Uintah School District is offering some reassurances. Just before noon, Uintah School District shared with the public that there was police activity taking place outside Vernal Middle School but that all students and staff were safe and there was no threat to the school.
Many community members have been deeply concerned about a local Doctor who suffered extreme health problems after becoming ill with COVID-19 early this year but some great news has come through this week.
With it being Teacher Appreciation Week it is appropriate that Duchesne County School District announced a very important annual award within the District as well as other awards. The district shared that on Tuesday, May 4th, Duchesne County School District was pleased to celebrate its Teachers and Classified Employees of the year from each school in the district.
Uintah County has now swapped places with Duchesne County on the COVID-19 Transmission Index. As of May 6th, Uintah County shifted down to the low level while Duchesne County bumped back up to the moderate transmission level, all while Daggett County remains at the low level.
The Daggett County Commission issued their monthly update this week. The Flaming Gorge Fire and EMS District Board was sworn in on April 28th and the Commission thanked the new board for their work on getting organized and going.

The drama departments of both Uintah and Union have worked hard to keep their programs going while adjusting to sometimes rapidly changing information and requirements related to the COVID-19 pandemic.
The Utah Petroleum Association is turning to residents in the Uintah Basin asking for support of their Utah Energy United initiative as a way to stand against the open-ended moratorium on federal oil and natural gas leasing. UPA is specifically asking those in Uintah Basin communities to join their coalition by visiting their website, filling out a contact information form, and choosing how to participate.
The Ute Indian Tribal Business Committee announced this week that it has engaged Aquila Cubed Consulting, LLC, to assist the Ute Indian Tribe with further development of its 2.5 GHz spectrum license, which was issued by the FCC under the FCC’s Tribal Priority Window last October.
