As you’re out enjoying Christmas lights in Vernal, be watchful of a green grinchy prowler at the display on 441 West 1070 South. The Miller family started their hobby of programming holiday lights 11 years ago and have continued to grow their display in the 6 years they have lived in Vernal. Ed Miller says it started as a gift to his wife Christina, whose Christmas wish was to have a house like the Griswolds. What started as a couple controllers and programmed songs has grown to 9 controllers with 16 circuits per controller, 6000 feet of extension cords, 18 personally programmed songs, a near infinite number of twinkling lights, and 1 very special custom mask and costume that makes appearances in the evenings, especially on weekends. Ed says sharing the display and getting dressed up as the Grinch is all worth it when they see kids pressed up against the car window, enjoying the show. “It’s been a great thing for our family,” shares Ed, who emphasized it takes him, Christina, and their son Trey 3 weeks to put it all up. “We enjoy doing it and we sit out and watch the lights as much as everybody else.” The lights are on at the Millers on 1070 South every night from 5 to 11pm. Be sure to tune your radio to 107.3 FM while watching the show and if you’re lucky, you’ll catch the Grinch is out greeting visitors.
