A stop for an observed traffic violation on Highway 40 took a dangerous turn last week in Duchesne County. According to the Affidavit of Probable Cause, the vehicle initially pulled over and the officer noticed the driver’s eyes were glossy and speech was slurred. He requested the driver step out of the vehicle for field sobriety testing. The driver acted like he was getting out of the vehicle only to slam the door shut, put the vehicle in drive, and flee from the scene. The officer pursued the vehicle for about 2 miles before the vehicle came to a stop in the middle of the road and the driver tossed the keys out of the driver window before exiting the vehicle and laying flat on the ground. The man told officers he had been using methamphetamines and told officers where to locate the pipe under the driver’s seat. He was transported to UBMC for medical treatment and then to Duchesne County Jail. Aaron Marriot has been charged with 3rd Degree Felony Failure to Stop at Command of Police, as well as Misdemeanor possession charges and Driving Under the Influence with Measurable Controlled Substance in the Body.
