Call For Donors To Offset Severe Blood And Platelet Shortage

The public’s help is needed in the wake of a national health crisis. The American Red Cross shares that the U.S. is facing a severe blood shortage as requests from hospitals exceed the available supply of blood, drawing down the blood supply by about 35% over the past month. This is due in large part to hundreds of blood drives cancelled across the nation due to extreme winter weather, leaving at least 20,000 scheduled blood and platelet donations uncollected. There is a blood drive scheduled at the Roosevelt West Stake Center church building on February 6th, Roosevelt Baptist Church on February 9th, Duchesne Utah Stake Center church building on February 10th, the Altamont Stake Center church building on February 11th, the Knights of Columbus in Vernal on February 16th, Vernal Elks Lodge on February 17th, and the Roosevelt Stake Center church building on February 18th. Blood and platelets on hospital shelves save lives and donors are urgently needed so the supply is there when emergency strikes. To sign up to donate in the Uintah Basin, visit redcrossblood.org  and search for drives near you. Those who donate by February 28th can receive a $20 e-gift card when signing up through the website.
