A pair of California men stranded on a mountain during a rainstorm were rescued by Sweetwater County Search and Rescue on Friday. The men were on the south slope of Pine Mountain when they became stranded and had to hike to the Summit of Pine Mountain, the highest point in Sweetwater County, to get a cell phone signal to call for help. Sheriff Lowel says that conditions were so bad that the rescuers also became stuck on the way out but were able to extricate themselves. The men had visited the Tri-State Monument at the juncture of the Wyoming, Colorado, and Utah borders when they became stuck. Sheriff Lowell thanked the Search and Rescue team, stating that “the people who owe them their well-being and, in numerous cases, their very lives, number in the many hundreds.”
