Cache Valley Turkeys Relocated to Book Cliffs

Most people think that having too much turkey is exclusively a Thanksgiving  problem. Well, residents of the town of Mendon, found in Utah’s Cache Valley, would have a different story. Every winter the town is overrun with turkeys that come looking for food, according to a KSL report. Although there is no official number, it is estimated that there is around 500 turkeys in Mendon alone though the whole valley is also dealing with an overabundance. In an attempt to address the issue, the Utah Division of Wildlife Resources has captured over 500 wild turkeys this winter and the birds are being relocated to the Book Cliffs near Vernal. To help better understand the turkeys behaviors and then manage their herds, some of the wild turkeys have been given GPS backpacks. “We’re just trying to better understand the turkeys in general,” shares Randall McBride with the Utah Division of Wildlife Resources, “especially in this area so we can better manage them, so, hopefully, they’ll become less of a problem.”
