Wildlife officials are seeking the public’s help in a case of poaching that has taken place east of Meeker on October 23rd. Wildlife officials learned about the abandoned bull moose after a hunter called Operation Game Thief to report the carcass. The moose was killed by a gunshot wound during the beginning of the rifle hunt at a time when only elk and deer were in season. Wildlife officials say the animal was intact at the time of discovery, including its 42-inch rack. “We know accidents can occur during a hunt and we take prompt self reporting into account in cases like this,” shares Meeker wildlife manager Ross McGee. “The responsible party still has time to do the right thing and contact us right away to let us know what happened.” Poaching a moose can include a felony charge, a fine of over $30,000 dollars, and up to a year in jail. Anyone with information on this case of poaching is asked to call
