A new Buffalo Soldier Heritage Trail in Utah has been unveiled and the celebration is accompanied by activities today in Salt Lake City, Price, and Vernal. All are invited by the Utah Cultural Site Stewardship Program and the State Historic Preservation Office to journey into the rich and inspiring history of the Buffalo Soldiers during their time stationed in Utah. Today, June 6th, Utahns can dive into the history with three simultaneous presentations happening at the Fort Douglas Military Museum in Salt Lake City, the Price Prehistoric Museum in Price, and the Uintah County Heritage Museum in Vernal. “Hear directly from the project development team as they reveal groundbreaking research and stories that helped shape this new heritage trail,” shares the announcement. Each museum will welcome event guests starting at 5pm with the event starting at 6pm and the presentation at 6:30pm. Then tomorrow, June 7th, there are guided tours of archaeological and cultural sites tied to the Buffalo Soldiers. The site locations in northeastern Utah include Fort Thornburgh, Fort Duchesne, Gate Canyon, and Nine Mile Canyon. More information on the June 7th guided tours will be given during tonight’s presentation at the Uintah County Heritage Museum.
