The Bureau of Land Management has pulled oil and gas leases in Nine Mile Canyon following months of controversy. The leases would have been part of the BLM’s first online auction at new site

www.energynet.com

that launches tomorrow,
Tuesday, December 13th.
24 parcels consisting of over 10,500 acres located in Duchesne and Uintah Counties are listed as available for lease from the BLM – Utah State Office. The parcels in Nine Mile Canyon are no longer listed which environmentalist groups consider a victory. The groups spent months protesting the lease listings saying that any development encroaches on the canyon’s rock art while state leaders insisted responsible development is possible and needed. Clearly feeling the pressure, the BLM withdrew the leases just days before the auction.
