Letters arriving in mailboxes across the state is the latest move in the back and forth over Proposition 4. The Utah Republican Party is gathering signatures to have Proposition 4, which was narrowly passed in 2018, placed on the 2026 ballot for voters to decide if it should remain in place or be repealed. Better Boundaries, the group behind Proposition 4, announced a signature removal campaign this week to reach Utah voters that had signed the petition. The letter provides the reader with steps on how to remove their signature from the petition. Utah GOP Chairman Rob Axson shared with Deseret News that the signature removal campaign shows Better Boundaries is worried “an overwhelming number of Utahns are sick and tired of Prop 4, activist judges and the continued disregard of the Utah Constitution.” He emphasized that every signature page in a petition book states what is being signed and that “Utahns know how to read and know what they signed.” The Republican Party has until February 15th to submit the required 141,000 verified signatures in order for Proposition 4 to be placed on the November ballot.
