A fire that started on the Uintah and Ouray Indian Reservation on July 21st is now threatening structures. The Bear Trap Fire started on a ridge just north of Bear Trap Knoll, west of Big Springs in a very remote area that includes deep and rugged canyons. The fire grew over 2000 acres within about 2 weeks and since then has tripled in size with the latest mapping at 6,594 acres. The BIA Forestry & Wildland Fire – Uintah & Ouray Agency reports that the Ute Tribe Youth Camp and a private ranch to the south are currently threatened by the fire. Bureau of Indian Affairs fire crews are being assisted by US Forest Service, San Carlos Tribe, Duchesne County, State of Utah Forestry and Fire, and Denver City Fire. The fire remains at zero percent containment. It is burning on the Uintah and Ouray Reservation and BLM lands in Grand County.
