While noone is saying the local economy has recovered, there are indications that things are trending in a positive direction. According to data from the Department of Workforce Services, the average wage is now only 5% below the State’s average and continues to trend upward. So with a strengthening average wage it seems some citizens are relaxing and feeling more comfortable getting out and spending some of their money. During the last Vernal City Council meeting, Finance Director Michael Davis presented on the status of the budget and noted that sales tax revenues have strengthened over the past several months, pointing to a growing economy. Unemployment is also moving in the right direction with Uintah and Duchesne Counties both lowering by around 3 percent so far this year.
