Basin Unemployment Continues Downward Trend

It’s another month of good news from the Department of Workforce Services as the latest report shows another shift downward in Basin unemployment rates. Daggett County shifted from 3.8 to 3.5 percent unemployment. Duchesne County took a plunge down from 7 percent to 6.5 percent unemployment and Uintah County also saw a half a percent drop from 7.3 to 6.8 percent unemployment. To put things in perspective, this means in the last year, unemployment in Daggett County dropped 2 full percentage points, Duchesne County dropped 3.3 percent and Uintah County dropped 3 percent. While the Basin is lagging compared to the rest of the state, the area is benefitted by the growth happening in Utah as a whole. “Utah’s labor market is one of the best performing in the nation,” shares DWS Chief Economist Carrie Mayne. “Some parts of the state are not yet benefitting as much from the favorable economic momentum but with proper support from the state and local leaders, opportunities will spread throughout Utah.”
