The three men charged with raping a Uintah County girl in 2016 will not be released before their trial this spring. Salt Lake County 3rd District Court Judge Randall Skanchy made the decision during their hearing on Wednesday that Jerry Flatlip, Randall Flatlip, and Larson Rondeau would remain in jail. Court minutes dated January 24th state that “based on discussions with the Court, Bail is denied in this matter.” Court minutes recorded on January 4th show that an 8 day jury trial for the three men is scheduled May 2nd through May 11th in 3rd District Court in Salt Lake County. The rape of the 9-year-old girl was reported to deputies on March 29th, 2016. The child was sleeping on the couch of a Uintah County residence while her mother went into the garage of the home and was smoking methamphetamine. The child told investigators that during that time she was taken into another room in the home where she was raped by four men. Following a search warrant at the resident, 36-year-old Larson Rondeau, 20-year-old Josiah RonDeau, 29-year-old Jerry Flatlip, and 26-year-old Randall Flatlip were arrested but charges against Josiah Rondeau were dismissed. Larson Rondeau, Jerry Flatlip, and Randall A. Flatlip each pleaded Not Guilty on the charges and the three men were ordered to stand trial on the rape charges. The trial was originally moved from Uintah County to Summit County but ended in mistrial in Summit County in December due to failure to seat a jury. The trial was then moved to Salt Lake County and will take place in May. The three men will remain in the custody of the Uintah County Jail.
