Roosevelt EMS has some timely Back to School reminders for the community with school starting next week. “Sidewalks, crosswalks, and roads will soon be filled with students – yours, mine, and theirs,” shares Roosevelt EMS. “We ask that you remind your students to practice safety when walking, getting on and off buses, and riding their bicycles. If you have teen drivers, please remind them, and yourselves, to remain distraction free and to watch for students at all times.” Safe Kids Worldwide shares that there are 5 teen pedestrian deaths every week in the U.S and there has been a 13 percent increase in the pedestrian death rate for 12 to 19 year olds since 2013. There are alarming behaviors on the rise in school zones included distracted walking, unsafe street crossing, and unsafe drop-off and pick-up practices.  All drivers need to be alert and obey speed limits in school zones and beyond.
