Progress is being made on the Avintaquin Ridge Fire burning in a remote area of the Uintah and Ouray Indian Reservation. According to the BIA Forestry & Wildland Fire-Uintah & Ouray Agency, accurate mapping shows the entire fire area to now be at 111 acres and as of
Sunday evening
, the fire was considered 80 percent contained. The Avintaquin Ridge Fire was reported to the Uintah Basin Interagency Fire Center on the afternoon of August 14th when a passing fire aircraft saw the fire burning on steep slopes between Avintaquin and Sams Canyon, north of the Forest Service boundary. With progress over the past few days, resources have scaled back to just the BIA Navajo helicopter and a 10-man helitack crew.
